Average Font from Moritz Resl on Vimeo.

This project shows what a typeface would look like if it consisted of all fonts installed on my system. Every character from a to z is drawn using every single font with a low opacity. In total there are 904 typefaces in my library. I didn't exclude the ugly ones.

This video shows the generation of one character.

Idler: A New Modular Typeface Family By Lamesville from Lamesville on Vimeo.

Idler is an all caps, modular display typeface family meant to be used for big, bold lettering. Idler's two "main" weights (Idler Detail and Idler Plain) can be used effectively as single colored layers on their own, but the typeface's true potential is realized when the user layers the "shaded" weights along with the main weights to create a colorful 3D shading effect. The Idler family contains six weights all together: Idler Detail, Idler Plain, Idler Inner, Idler Highlight, Idler Shadow, & Idler Solid.

Colosseo: Reimagining the Roman Coliseum with type (Canon 7D) from Cameron Moll on Vimeo.

To read more about this artwork and to purchase a copy, please visit http://colosseotype.com

In March 2009, Suzanne (wife) and I spent several days in Rome to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. This was also a chance to observe in detail the Coliseum, which I'd already selected as the next subject in my series of letterpress posters (see http://cameronmoll.bigcartel.com/category/posters).

Over the course of the next 12 months, the artwork was handcrafted character by character, totaling roughly 250 hours of work from start to finish. Characters from the Goudy Trajan and Bembo Pro typefaces form the Coliseum, also known as today as Colosseo (Italian) and originally known as Amphitheatrum Flavium (Latin).

Printed at Bjørn Press in Provo, Utah. http://bjornpress.com

I shot the video shown here using a Canon 7D, with Suzanne's assistance for my interview segment. Edited with Final Cut Express. I picked up the 7D literally the day before shooting at Bjørn Press, so I still have lots to learn. (I botched my interview part by failing to turn off sharpening before shooting and by not having Suzanne sit at the same height while interviewing me, hence my eyes focus differently in each segment. But oh well, it is what it is.)

The opening segment was filmed at 1280/60fps, then in FCE it was slowed down and resized to fit the rest of the footage, which was shot at 1920/30fps. The 7D makes it really easy to pull off high-quality slow motion.

Font used for the titles is Bembo Pro.

Lenses:
* Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM prime
* Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM zoom
* Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 USM macro

More about my video setup here: http://cameronmoll.com/archives/2010/02/canon_7d_video/

All music is by This Will Destroy You. Their self-titled album (2007) seemed to compliment the footage perfectly. Songs, in order of appearance:

"The Mighty Rio Grande"
"Leather Wings"
"Villa del Refugio"

Gastrotypographicalassemblage from christian carlsson on Vimeo.

“There are few pieces that represent the typographic and
design spirit that illuminated that moment of history, and certainly none on a scale as ambitious.” Milton Glaser.

Kemistry Gallery is celebrating the work of legendary designer Lou Dorfsman, art director for the CBS network.

The exhibition centres on his most notable creation, the 11 metre wide handmade wooden typographic wall that he named Gastrotypographicalassemblage. With custom type created by Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase, the wall contains almost 1500 individual characters.

Bob Dylan Subterranean Homesick Blues - A HAND LETTERING EXPERIENCE from Leandro Senna on Vimeo.

IF YOU WANNA SEE ALL THE PAGES AND A LITTLE BIT OF THE PROCESS VISIT
http://www.leandrosenna.com/72810/766869/work/bob-dylans-hand-lettering-experience

I´ve been thinking for a lot of time on doing a personal project where I could get out of the computer for a little bit, and have pleasure doing something handmade. Getting back to the basics.

Inspired by Bob Dylan´s Subterranean Homesick Blues video, where he flips cards with the lyrics as the song plays, I decided to recreate those cards with handmade type. I ended up doing all the lyrics, and not just some of the words, as Dylan did.

There are 66 cards done in one month during my spare time using only pencil, black tint pens and brushes. The challenge was not to use the computer, no retouching was allowed. Getting a letter wrong meant starting the page over.

I had a lot of fun doing this project, researching, practicing and getting deeper on typography.

There are some intentional misspellings and puns on the original song video, so I tried to keep that in a certain way.

You can watch the original movie here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKfrjk6suAQ

Font generator / processing : prototyp-0 from yannick mathey on Vimeo.

LAIKA from Michael Flückiger on Vimeo.

LAIKA, a dynamic typeface.
=======================

For our bachelor thesis, we engaged ourselfs with dynamic typography, especially with dynamic typefaces. Since not much work has been done in this field, we devised a system in which a typeface would not be defined static fonty styles anymore but would be able to change it‘s shape and appearance at any moment reacting to a broad spectrum of inputs.
